Library Cards:
A library card is issued to any person who is a permanent resident of Jackson County or who pays taxes in our county. He/she must come in, fill out an application card, providing proof of mailing address (driver's license, rent receipt, etc). We ask for basic information such as address and phone number, and one reference. The application will then be verified by mail. When the card is received in the mail, books can be checked out. The first card is free. A lost library card may be replaced for $1.00. For each replacement, the fee is increased by $1.00
Checkouts, Limits, Fines and Lost Books:
Our books, audios and videos check out for two weeks at a time, with 3 renewals
available for each. Renewals can be made by phone. Our reference and genealogy books do not check out. Selected Arkansas books are also coded as reference, and the current issues of magazines do not check out. We ask that you limit videos to three per family, audios and cd rom titles to four per person, and non-fiction books of the same subject to four per person. Our fines are 5 cents per day up to $1.00 per item. We have five grace days, with the fines starting on day six at 30 cents. When the fines reach $1.00 on any one item, borrowing privileges will be suspended until the item is returned or paid for. Fines on a patron's card must be under $5.00 to continue checking out. Lost books that have been paid for may be refunded if the book is returned in good condition.
Loud and Disturbing Behavior in Library:
The Library should be a place in which all people have the ability to use its resources in a quiet, non threatening atmosphere. To assure this, certain basic rules must be maintained. All Library users will be expected to act within these guidelines, or they can be asked to leave the Library. It will be up to the individual staff member, and the circumstances at hand, to determine if a warning should be issued. The Police will be notified immediately if a user fails to leave the Library when asked by Library staff. The rules are as follows:
- People using the Library are expected to do so in a quiet atmosphere. Excessive talking, gathering around tables for conversation purposes, and the making of loud noises is not permitted.
- Running, jumping, kicking, skipping, or any other like behavior is not permitted.
- Cell phones should be turned to low, and incoming phone calls should be short. Outgoing phone calls should be made in the entryway areas so that the ensuing conversation does not disturb other Library users. Extended phone conversations, or the receiving of multiple phone calls is not permitted.
- The moving of tables, chairs or other furniture is not permitted without approval from Library Staff.
- Areas posted for "study" require that all talk be short, in a whisper, and should be directed toward staff and not other people using the Library.
- Food and drinks are prohibited except by staff in staff areas, in meeting rooms, or for Library related functions.
- Items which are left or abandoned by Library users are subject to search to try and determine if the owner is in the Library. If the owner is not in the Library, the materials may be turned over to the Police Department. The Library is not responsible for any items or personal property left, lost, misplaced or stolen.
- Crying children and babies are the responsibility of the parent to control, and although given more leeway, fall under that same rules as adults.
- Any fighting, cursing, yelling or other uncontrolled behavior will bring an automatic expulsion from the Library, and could result in the notification of the police for disorderly conduct.
